rotoscope storyboard.jpg

For this assignment I chose to rotoscope a choreographed dance video. The original video is of Hyojin Choi's dance choreography to Nails, Hair, Hips, Heels by Todrick Hall. The rotoscoping process itself was simple and easy to achieve, but it was physically tiring being hunched over my drawing tablet and tracing out 539 frames. I think that the most challenging part of this assignment is that there are originally two dancers and they would occasionally dance around one another. This became a problem when the dancer I chose to trace would disappear behind the other. I solved this problem by using the Liquefy tool and using it as a transition. I would use this assignment as an introduction to animation because it would get the students to study and understand key frames, in-betweens, and secondary action for traditional animation.
